Diesmal dauert es nicht so lange, bis es wieder was zu lernen gibt und natürlich muss wieder Doctor Who herhalten. Heute die Folge Day of the Daleks. Damals 1972 war das großes Kino, da die pepperpots nach sechs Jahren Abwesenheit endlich wieder auftraten. Heutzutage kaum vorstellbar.

Ebenfalls kaum vorstellbar sind die Effekte vor über 40 Jahren und das dachten sich auch die Macher der DVD. Doch dazu gleich mehr. Hier geht es erstmal darum, dass der Doktor sich in Gefangenschaft hat begeben müssen und der gute Brigadier erkundigt sich am Telefon, ob alles in Ordnung sei.

BRIGADIER
Is everything all right there?

DOCTOR
Yes, fine, Brigadier. Yes, things couldn’t be better.

BRIGADIER
Yates and Benton came to look for you. Said the place was deserted.

DOCTOR
Did they? Oh yes, we were probably down the cellar at the time. Old Styles keeps a remarkably good selection of wines, you know.

BRIGADIER
Now listen, Doctor, you’re sure that everything is normal down at that house? Because Styles is coming back there tomorrow night.

DOCTOR
Look, I don’t that’s very wise, Brigadier.

BRIGADIER
Well, why not, if everything’s all right? It is all right, isn’t it, Doctor? Captain Yates was very concerned about you.

DOCTOR
Yes, well, you tell Captain Yates not to worry. Everything’s fine. And tell old Styles too, and the Prime Minister. Oh, and don’t forget to tell it to the Marines. Goodbye.

YATES
There you are, sir. I said there was something wrong.

Es ist tatsächlich schon neun Monate seit der letzten Erfüllung meines Bildungsauftrags und das muss schnell geändert werden. Gestern Abend lief die letzte Folge der siebten Staffel Doctor Who mit Auftritten der “klassischen” Doktoren und da möchte ich die Gelegenheit ergreifen das als “beste TV-Folge” gewählte The Caves of Androzani einzubinden.

Zugegebenermaßen habe ich das ausgewählte Wort nicht während des Anschauens entdeckt, sondern im Blog Classical Gallifrey. Wer die Geschichte kennt, sollte den Beitrag lesen, denn die Interpretation ist zwar lang, aber tief und ausführlich.

Doch für den Moment ist das irrelevant, denn wir möchten ja was lernen:

Wieder einmal kann man die ungefähre Bedeutung von cupidity als Begierde, Habgier (LEO) herauslesen. Im free dictionary heißt es

Excessive desire, especially for wealth; covetousness or avarice.
